We are 10!

Since 2006, we've connected the world’s biggest brands to millions of young adults and students

A trip down memory lane

Take a look at our timeline showing the progress we've made over the last ten years…

2006 – The Student Guide®

Our Founder, Danny Kataria, launched the first edition of The Student Guide®.

Unwittingly, he had created a business, and British American Group was born.

Here’s a photo of Ben Shephard holding the Guide – we couldn’t find anything else from 2006!

2007 – The Festival Guide®

The BA team needed an excuse to keep the party going during work hours.

The Festival Guide® was born!

Here’s a pic of the mighty festival wagon, which came into existence a few years later.

2008 – The Graduate Guide®

It felt strange that we weren’t helping students after their time at university.

We created The Graduate Guide® to help them through this tricky period of time.

With advice on postgraduate courses and employment options – it was an instant success.

2009 – The Gap Year Travel Guide®

People always used to ask us – “why don’t you make a publication for people taking a gap year?”

So, we did.

The first edition of The Gap Year Travel Guide® was released.

2010 – Granville Street

Until now, 20 of us had been cramped in a tiny office within Birmingham’s famous “Custard Factory”.

We moved to our own building on Granville Street.

Things were getting serious!

2011 – On Campus

By this time, we had been handing out our magazines at universities for years.

Soon, clients were asking us to hand out things for them too.

That’s how our On-Campus department came into existence!

2012 – Rebrand

Our youth brands had been bringing joy to young adults for many years now.

However, it was time for a facelift.

Here’s McBusted showing off our Guides’ new branding – random, we know.

2013 – Holliday Street Expansion

As time went on, our staff numbers kept growing.

We were quickly running out of space in our building on Granville Street.

So, we expanded into the office building next door to us, on Holliday Street!

2014 – Email Marketing

Clients started asking us to send emails for them, to our database.

Hey presto – the email marketing department was launched!

Here’s a photo of Tim and Tristan – the legends that made it happen.

2015 – Office Refurbishment

The last few years were full of expansion.

It was time to make our offices seriously comfy.

We got ourselves a Playstation, pool table, beer fridge, table tennis – you get the idea!

2016 – Youth Discount®

We thought it was unfair that non-students couldn’t get student discounts.

We started Youth Discount® to give discounts to ALL young adults.

Luckily, millions of young adults agreed with us.

2017 – Uni News®

Sport is seriously competitive.  Student journalism is seriously creative.

What if someone found a way to turn student journalism into a sport?

We did.  Uni News® – by students, for students.

  • Joerg Stampler | Senior Product Manager | L'Oréal

It is a pleasure working with The Student Guide, a very proactive and flexible company who understands the values and target audience of a brand quickly

  • Dasha Matyskina | Adobe / Torpedo Group

The British American Group have helped us get the latest Adobe campaigns in front of the student market on numerous occasions through solus email campaigns. They are quick and easy to work with and offer flexible targeting options and strong rates in the industry. We look forward to our future endeavours with the team.

  • Tim Roberts | Marketing Manager - Growth Products | Direct Line Group
We worked with BA Media on some targeted advertising via their UK Graduate guide for our Backpacker Insurance policy and then later via their UK Student Guide to promote our Travel Insurance and the perils of not having adequate Travel Insurance.  We found BA Media a pleasure to work with; they kept us up to date with deadlines and were extremely efficient.  I would recommend anyone who deals with people in their markets to use them for their advertising.
  • Blagoy Klimov
Blagoy Klimov PhD | Head of International Affairs and Projects Office | Varna Free University - Bulgaria

Out of all our international contacts, BA definitely sets the standard for great communication skills, friendliness, personal touch (which is quite hard to keep in the corporate world) and young spirit. Keep up the good work! Happy to have you as partners.

  • Lupita Ayala | Deputy Director | Mexico Tourism Board

The Gap Year Travel Guide is the perfect way of communication with the 18-25 market in the UK. Our advert within the Guide has drastically increased tourism to Mexico.
