How Advertising to Students can Increase Footfall to Your Nightclub

Return to blog

British American Group / 03.05.18 / Industry

In the age of social media and digital everything, it’s easy to believe the answer to all business ills lies on the internet, because that’s what you’ve been told. Everything you read these days tells you print advertising is dead, an internet presence is the most cost-effective way to advertise your business, and social media is the best way to reach students.

The truth of the matter is what works for some, doesn’t necessarily work for others. In fact, when your target audience is as tuned into advertising as students are, taking a step back from social media for more creative methods of advertising can yield an even better ROI and footfall to your nightclub.

University

If your main campaign goal is to attract greater numbers of students to your nightclub, it is much cheaper and time effective to advertise in the heart of the university rather than having to spend time and money researching where undergraduates spend their time. One thing’s for sure, it won’t be in one place.

A university campus isn’t only where students go to learn, it’s their own personal hub for socialising with friends and staying up to date on the latest trends in the student market. If you’ve not considered advertising around campuses, where students won’t be able to ignore your advertising, then you should look into an on campus marketing campaign to see the true benefits.

Student Magazine

Every university, and many colleges, will publish at least one student magazine and in many cases two; one run by the Students Union, and a general campus magazine. In most instances these magazines are free to the students. The revenue made from advertising going towards production costs, student welfare, or union offers.

Make an appointment to meet the magazine’s editor or advertising manager to discuss your advertising requirements. If it’s viable invite them to the club to discuss your ideas over a beer, so they get a personal view of what’s on offer.

Want to reach a larger audience? Rather than focusing on one universities’ student magazine, why not get featured in a leading student magazine that gets sent out to 388,000 students across the UK for maximum exposure.

Flyers

Flyers are a good cost-effective way of advertising a special upcoming event, especially if they are distributed by student brand ambassadors that can really connect with your target audience. Not only will flyers showcase your club to students who may have not heard of your club before, you can also offer exclusive deals and discounts if they show the flyer on the night!

Student Nights

Student nights can benefit both club and students. Many students today have to work hard part-time to pay their rent and feed themselves in order to continue their studies. Money is tight, and wherever they can enjoy a cheap night out off campus is welcomed with open arms.

Due to their schedules, students don’t stick to the usual Friday and Saturday night routine of going to a club; they might decide to go out for some drinks on a Tuesday instead. Launch a ‘Students Night’ on one of your quiet nights, where on production of a student’s card they get 10% or 20% discount on drinks, may be all that’s needed to turn a quiet night into a profitable one.
