How To Understand Your Student Audience (And How To Target Them)

To run an effective student on campus marketing campaign, you need to be aware of who your student audience is, and what the best way to target them is. Being mindful of both of these things will give you the best chance of the campaign being a success. In this latest article we look at what makes targeting so important.

As you can probably imagine, extensive research has been done on this subject area and it has found that those who know their audience have the best possible chances of successfully engaging with them.

It is easy to assume you already understand your student audience, but this isn’t always the case. What specific qualities do you want the people your campaign is targeting to have? The most important thing when it comes to targeting is to be as specific as you possibly can. Really focus and identify who you are trying to appeal to. If your answer is just ‘students’ then you need to go back and refine as you are unlikely to have a successful on campus student marketing campaign if your audience is so broad.

Now that we understand our target audience, how about how your audience perceives your brand? Do you want your audience to know a lot about your company or certain specific things such as deals or a unique selling point? Is the audience knowledgeable about your topic or unaware it even exists? The best way to approach this is to have a clear view of what the students want from you. Considering this is important to any student on campus marketing campaign.

Once you have results, you then need to draw conclusions to come up with the best ways you can target your student audience going forward. At this stage having a broad mind will help, taking each piece of research or result on merit. At the same time, you should be able to spot obvious and recognisable trends. This will be different for a range of businesses or organisations, but real progress can be made here, which will positively affect your student on campus marketing campaign, so long as you make the correct interpretations.

Understanding your student audience to target them for your on campus student marketing campaigns need not be difficult and can actually prove very fruitful providing you take the time to do some work before.
