Back in January our Editor in Chief Luke Martin attend the University of Birmingham Careers Network Creative Careers Conference 2015 to be one of the keynote speakers.
After the event, the students had the chance to mingle and speak the speakers. We will let Luke take up the story from here;
“As I stood there sorting the many bags I had with me after getting stranded in a snow storm/avalanche in Sheffield, I was approached by a second-year student named Ella Downing. With me being a grumpy scary northerner, Ella was a little nervous but she asked me if there was anything that she could do at BA Media. I love it when students ask and take the initiative like this as it shows they have the ability to be proactive in their quest to get experience. Nothing is a simple as asking to do something and then just getting on with it.”
Students at the University of Birmingham City are eligible for a Professional Work Experience Bursary that helps support them while undertaking valuable work experience in a chosen profession. Providing up to £800 in assistance to those who choose to take their experience in the UK (as well as meeting the set criteria)
And with that simple show of initiative, a flurry of emails and the help of the University of Birmingham’s Work Experience Scheme; we gave her a taster of what working with us is like. Her first mission: To review a Gorgon City gig… and interview the guys afterwards!
She did brilliantly (and had a great time) at the gig! Grabbing amazing photos, writing a comprehensive review and getting all the gossip on Gorgon City’s new album came as second nature.
From there, we offered Ella the chance to join the BAM team for a couple of weeks as an intern.
Ella went to review Parklife Festival. We gave her access to our Festival Guide social media accounts to Facebook, Live-Tweet and Instagram the event while she was there. It wasn’t all band photos and #food pictures, Ella had interviews to do! It was then she got to meet and chat to the legend himself, Fatboy Slim!
So the possibilities with British American are endless. We make things happen. Whether that’s for a student or a client.
